David HittI am a native of Huntsville, Ala., where I currently reside. I am a 1992 graduate of Huntsville High School, and earned a degree in journalism at the University of Mississippi.

I am a former newspaperman, having worked at several small-town weekly Mississippi newspapers, most notably The Enterprise-Tocsin, published by the state's last great newspaperman, Jim Abbott. I was briefly a newspaper editor myself, in a short-lived misadventure.

I returned to Huntsville in 2002 to take a job at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, combining my childhood love of the space program with my love of writing.

My first book on spaceflight history was published in 2008, and I am beginning my second.

I have volunteered with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, and am a member of the National Space Society policy committee.

My primary non-space-related avocation is acting in the Face2Face improv comedy troupe.
